Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. Its common elements are pitch, rhythm , dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek μουσική. Prehistoric music can only be theorized based on findings from paleolithic archaeology sites. Flutes are often discovered, carved from bones in which lateral holes have been pierced; these are thought to have been blown at one end like the Japanese shakuhachi.
